"The Bowery Presents is delighted to be involved with the reopening of The Wellmont Theatre," said Jim Glancy, a partner in The Bowery Presents. "After months of renovation and detailed restoration, the room is absolutely stunning and the acoustics are pitch perfect - we think it will be the best venue of its size in the area."

The Wellmont Theatre originally opened in 1922 as a live theater and converted into a motion picture theater in 1929; it later became a triplex and closed in 2006. Over the past seven months, the venue has undergone much structural and aesthetic renovation in advance of its reopening. Important structural reinforcements have been made, including the installation of a new roofing system, and antiquated mechanical, plumbing and electrical infrastructure have been replaced with new systems. In an effort to preserve the original grandeur of the building, intricate interior plasterwork, along with much of the period lighting have been carefully restored. The one thousand seat balcony has been refurbished while the raked orchestra floor has been sculpted into tiered floors rising away from the front of the stage, which will serve to optimize sight lines while permitting a flexible set-up to hold up to 2,500 people. The existing lobby and grand stairwells have been reinvigorated with new finishes and lighting, and the introduction of new amenities including orchestra and mezzanine bars, green rooms, and concession areas further seek to heighten the live entertainment experience. The newly renovated space will feature state-of-the-art sound, lighting, broadcasting and recording systems, which will also have the capability to be used for Internet, TV and radio broadcasts.

Brian Swier, along with Michael Costantin of Conklin Costantin Architects LLP, have led the renovations of The Wellmont Theatre.

Swier commented, "Mike Constantin and I were delighted to collaborate on the renovation of this magnificent landmark theatre. Our intent was to return the structure to its original splendor while introducing minimalist interventions that might enhance the dramatic nature of this live performance venue."

Montclair Entertainment, LLC is comprised of principals of The Bowery Presents, a New York-based independent promotion company which recently opened Music Hall of Williamsburg and Terminal 5 and are longtime owners of Bowery Ballroom and Mercury Lounge, and Andy Feltz, a Montclair resident and noted area promoter who operated New York's Beacon Theatre from 1986 to 2006 and is currently doing shows at the United Palace Theater.

"As a longtime resident of Montclair, it's a great honor that we can restore The Wellmont Theatre for the whole town and surrounding communities to enjoy," said Feltz. "It will be run with an eye for the local communities, with international stars."

Anthony Makes, a Queens, NY native, who previously programmed at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and the Chicago Theatre, was brought on board in February to book The Wellmont Theatre.

"We're excited about the initial lineup and we hope music fans will agree we're bringing a real diversity of performers to the new space," said Makes. "There truly will be something for every musical taste."

The Wellmont Theatre is the first New Jersey venue to be managed and operated in part by principals of The Bowery Presents, which has promoted in New Jersey including shows at The Izod Center (formerly Continental Airlines Arena) and The Stone Pony in the last year alone. Montclair Entertainment, LLC holds a long-term lease with The Rosen Group, which purchased the property in February.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale Saturday, September 13, at 10AM at Tickets.com. Please visit www.wellmonttheatre.com for schedule updates.
